ADOPTION INFORMATION

Adopting from Yorkie911 Rescue Inc, a breed specific rescue, is different than adopting from your local shelter .  Yorkie911 Rescue is comprised of a network of volunteer foster families from all over the tri-state and surrounding area.  We do not have a physical shelter location where you can come and view our available Yorkies.  All of the dogs we rescue are placed within our foster care program until they are adopted by their furever families.  This means our foster families open up their homes, allow our rescued Yorkies to interact with their families and are exposed to a variety of daily lifestyles.  Since these dogs are in our home, they receive the same TLC that our own dogs get.  Occasionally, our foster families will fail "Fostering 101" and adopt their foster dogs.  The wonderful thing about foster care is that our rescues learn socialization skills and are in loving homes instead of a kennel setting such as a shelter.  We ask our foster families to observe the dogs in their care and decide what type of furever family would best fit that particular Yorkie's needs.  All of our Yorkies are spayed or neutered prior to adoption as well as brought up-to-date on the following vaccinations; rabies, distemper and bordatella.  Our dogs are also given dentals if necessary and they are heartworm tested.  Any major surgery needed will be taken care of by our vet before adoption, if possible.

All our dogs are fostered on Long Island (NY).  We do not transport our dogs.  If you are applying from outside the NY/NJ/CT area, you would have to travel to Long Island to meet/adopt from us.  We will adopt out of this area if we are able to get the home visit completed by another rescue volunteer and you are willing to come and meet/adopt here on Long Island.  If you are not able to do this, then please look for a local rescue or shelter to adopt from.

If you are only looking for a puppy and/or feel that a 5 year old dog is "too old", please do not continue as it is rare for rescue to have such young dogs.  We do not want to waste your time or ours.

Please read below to learn what you should expect during the Yorkie911 Rescue Adoption Process.  The Adoption Process is completed in the following order:

ADOPTION APPLICATION:
Click on the "Adoption Application" link and register through our website.  (Remember to keep a record of your Username and Password.)  Fill out the online application by answering all of the questions honestly and to the best of your ability.  When you complete the application, make sure to "Accept" the last question then write in your full name and date.  Once completed, click the submit button.  *Please contact your vet and give them permission to speak with Yorkie911 Rescue.*  If you do not receive an automatic reply about contacting your vet and submitting the $25 processing fee, chances are we did NOT receive your application.

PROCESSING FEE:
Please submit a $25.00 processing donation within 3 days of submitting your adoption application online.  We will not begin to process your application until this is received.  It will be deducted from the adoption fee if you are approved and adopt.   You may submit this donation via our PayPal button on our website.  If you do not have a PayPal account, you can use any major credit card as an alternative ("continue as a guest" and use visa or mastercard).  If you prefer to send a money order or bank check, please send us an email at yorkie911rescue@gmail.com and we will let you know where you can mail it.

VETERINARY CHECK:
We will call your Vet to ensure that all of the animals in your home are up to date on their vaccinations as well as rabies shot.  We want to make sure that your pets are taken care of and seen regularly by your Vet.

PHONE INTERVIEW:
A volunteer from our Yorkie911 Rescue Squad will call and speak with you in regards to your current pets and interest in adopting a dog.  We ask that you speak freely, elaborate what you wrote on your application and inform us of any additional information you may have forgotten to previously state.

PERSONAL REFERENCES:
We reserve the right to contact your personal references and conduct a background check.  If we feel any hesitation, we will contact your personal references to ensure you are a suitable person and/or family to adopt one of our available Yorkies.

HOME VISIT:
Once you have passed all of the above, we will contact you about conducting a Home Visit.  This means one of our volunteers will make an appointment to visit your home.  The purpose of this visit is to check for any potentially hidden dangers that are overlooked when a new Yorkie joins your family.  We ask that all members of your family are in attendance when we conduct your home visit.

GPS TRACKING DEVICE MUST BE PURCHASED PRIOR TO ADOPTION OR WE WILL NOT GO FORWARD WITH THE ADOPTION.
