LOST AND FOUND INFORMATION

Dog bone rule

Here are a list of tips, suggestions and websites that was put together for lost/found pets.  Please be sure to read this in its entirety to help give yourself a better chance at either being reunited with your lost pet or helping to reunite the pet you found with its family.  Please note that Yorkie911 Rescue (nor the person who put this info together) have no affiliation with any of these websites or groups; we are just caring people that know the pain of having a pet go missing or wanting it reunited with its owners.

Create a poster/flyer with the following information:
  • Your pet's picture - as recent as possible and at least 2 pictures if possible
  • Reward if posted (If it's a small reward, consider just putting the word REWARD in capital letters.  If it's a large reward, consider posting the amount)
  • Your phone number (more than one if possible - home, cell, work)
  • Any markings that make your pet unique
  • Your pet's name so people can call him/her by name
  • What they should do if they spot your pet - is she/he timid or afraid of people, etc.
Make sure all the above information is colorful & stands out so that it can be seen from a distance.  It's also a good idea to put your flyers in some sort of plastic protection so that the ink doesn't run during wet weather.

Post your flyers in all your local:
  • Pet stores
  • Pharmacies
  • Grocery stores
  • Gas station
  • Deli's
  • Pizzeria's
  • Veterinarian offices/Emergency hospitals
  • Diners
Make sure you ask permission before posting your flyers.  Most places will have a bulletin board that you can use or will give you permission to post your flyer on their window or door.  The above list is just a list of suggested places.  Post your flyers anywhere you think gets a lot of foot traffic in your area.  Remember that someone who doesn't have a pet of their own could find your pet, so you don't want to just post in pet stores.  It's best to cover all types of people.  At some point, everyone will go to a grocery store or gas station.

These are other resources you can use:
  • Steve Hagey - Phone#: 215-997-2687 Pet Rescue Bloodhound.  He is very reasonable and very good. His dog is trained to locate cats as well as dogs.
  • FindToto.com - Phone#: 623-242-8696 - For $85 they will use your house as the center to call 500 homes or more depending on the package you choose in your neighborhood to ask if they have seen your dog.  Check their website for more information.

Join Yahoo Groups specifically created for lost/found pets:
I would highly recommend joining these Yahoo Groups as well.  Once you're a member, you can send a post to all the members within this group of your missing pet.  There are rescuers on these lists from all over the country that can help keep an eye out for your pet.  A lot of people on these lists are also cross-posters, meaning they will receive your post and send it on to their rescue contacts, who will then send it onto their contacts.  Word can travel very fast through the rescue community online with the help of Yahoo Groups.
